Happy New Year from Bar Frida!

On New Year’s Eve 2009, we find ourselves grateful to our customers for their loyalty and friendship.  Here’s to a fantastic 2010 for one and all!  Thank you to each of you for making Bar Frida a special place for us all.

Thanks for the toy donations!

from Paul Crist of Vallarta Enfrenta el SIDA, A.C.

Many, many THANKS to Tom, Luis, and everyone who donated toys! The Posada at the CAPASITS HIV clinic was yesterday, and it was filled with smiling, laughing, young faces because Christmas came early for a lot of kids living in families affected by HIV and AIDS! Tom and all at Frida: YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

Check out the photos from the CAPASITS clinic Posada on the Vallarta Enfrenta el SIDA, A.C. facebook page (and become a fan if you’re not already!) http://www.facebook.com/#/album.php?aid=358495&id=304306885293&ref=mf

Tuesday Dec. 15, bring a toy for the kids!

Over the years, Frida’s customers have brought much joy to the children of Vallarta through the toy box we set out each holiday season.  It is amazing how fast it will fill up.  We have very generous customers for sure!

This year, we’ve set aside a special night, Tuesday Dec. 15, for you to bring in toys for the children.  If you can’t make it that night, any night prior is fine.  The toy box is ready now!  Have a wonderful holiday, wherever you may be.  We hope you’ll join us on Tuesday if you are here in town.

Frida’s new t-shirts now on sale!

If you’ve been been to Fridas Bar and Restaurant in Puerto Vallarta you’ve most likely noticed the giant mural that once was the back wall of the original location.  It’s been cut down and hauled to the new location a block away.  It hangs along the long wall on the first floor, opposite the bar.  When it was originally painted in 2002 by artist Jorge Zavala, it took 3 or 4 attempts and many months of work to get it right.

Now nearly 8 years later, Jorge showed up a few days after the new bar opened and delivered a second piece of art to owners Tom and Luis.  Like the first work, it was totally by surprise.  Tom had not asked Jorge to paint a portrait of Frida, just like he had not asked Jorge to paint the mural on the wall in 2002, but agreed to let him after he asked.  It was a good decision.  The mural has been a conversation piece and admired over the years by thousands of tourists and locals.  It captures the spirit of Frida beautifully and is full of symbolic imagery.

The new work is grabbing lots of attention too and shows how the artist’s work has matured, I think.  Many have threatened to steal it as they leave through the exit, where the new portrait hangs just to the right.   So many liked it that Tom decided he’d use it for the new tshirts.  Now you can take home a piece of Frida as a souvenir.  The new shirts are only 150 pesos.  Get yours today while they last.

Here model and bartender David shows off the new shirt, front and rear.  Enjoy.

Macho Vaquero Party

Fridas was the site of the first ever Macho Vaqueros Opening Night Festivities on November 12, 2009.  We had a great time with the cowboys and they promise to be back next year!  Ride em’ cowboys!  Visitors were from all over Mexico.

Another great Halloween at Bar Frida in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.  We saw a wedding, a sexy devil, a giant sucker toting rooster and a super clown that just missed the judging by 10 minutes!  It was wall to wall fun.  Check out the photos…

2008 Halloween Costume Contest winner Paco, of Paco Paco Nightclub fame. Paco made this costume at home and won most of the contests in town and then went to Gaudalajara the next night and did it again.

Halloween at Fridas is a Vallarta Tradition.  There is something about the spirit of Frida (ask the bartenders about the bar stools that seem to move on their own)mixed with the creativity of the costumed crowd that is always the perfect combination for a great time.  Frida’s contest draws a very nice assortment of costumes and this year, the staff will be doing a special “wedding party” event.  Watch for surprise guests to arrive thoughtout the night to ‘shake things up’.  Wear your favorite costume and join the fun!  You might win and you’ll definitely have fun!

Saturday, October 31st at Fridas.

Also this week at Fridas: Check out the new menu additions and the new LATE NIGHT MENU.  Frida’s kitchen will be serving until 1am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  (Till 11:30pm other nights!)  Great for the late night munchies!  Have you tried Frida’s burgers?  The best in town!  Our hot wings are becoming legendary too!

Frida’s Dinner Menu expands!

Frida's New Souvenir Beer Mugs, get yours with dinner tonight!

Frida's New Souvenir Beer Mugs, get yours with dinner tonight!

What started out at the old location as a Wednesday night spaghetti dinner prepared by Chef David and served up until it ran out for 50 pesos, has turned into one of the best new dining options (7 nights a week) in Vallarta and at unbelievable Frida prices!  The spaghetti is now 60 pesos on Wednesdays but includes salad and garlic bread.  Most take some home for lunch the next day.  The portions aren’t skimpy!

Sundays are now Pot Roast night (70 pesos).  Often a sell-out, you’ll need to get there early.  He starts serving at 6pm and on a recent Sunday in low season, it was gone by 8pm.

Then there’s the new full menu.  From Panini Sandwiches to burgers and fries to Sweet and Sour Chicken Stir Frys, Chef David is always serving fresh, tasty, creative cuisine that is pleasing everyone!  Recently, we saw Top Sirloin on the menu with potatoes and steamed veggies for 120 pesos, easily the most expensive thing on the menu but a steal if you know the portions David serves.  You won’t ever go hungry at Fridas.

Try the warm brownie with ice cream for a late night treat on Fridas upstairs balcony tables.  The best brownies in town, honest!  CLICK HERE to see the full menu and join us at Fridas tonight!
